Vegan day 55: Wild Ginger, Pan-Asian vegan cafe in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn

Once again my V-Spot cafe let me down! They are still closed for renovations- I sure hope they are creating a Colombian vegan masterpiece! They are a Colombian vegan cafe in Park Slope, Brooklyn with creative appetizers and entrees. I want you to see the Colombia Bandeja Paisa– all vegan! The website says until further notice- not sure I like the sound of that!

Luckily, I have the Happy Cow App on my phone! I found two restaurants close by and choose Wild Ginger, Pan-Asian vegan cafe. There are a handful of Wild Gingers around- just makes me wonder what goes on at the county clerks office; I thought you could only have one business in the same industry and city with the same name! I know at least 3 different ones- and 2 out of 3 are vegan so go Wild Ginger!

This Wild Ginger is located at 112 Smith Street, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn not to be confused with the other vegan Wild Ginger in Williamsburg- oh boy! I’m surprised this place wasn’t busier on a Friday night but perhaps they do more daytime and during the week business since it’s close to downtown Brooklyn- beautiful ambiance, great service and delicious food!

As I have said before, I’m not a big fan of dining out- I know- it’s so not obvious lately! lol
The healthiest cooking can be accomplished in the home! That being said, we all dine out- sometimes more often than not!

How can you eat healthy when dining out? Sometimes I forget and dive right into what looks tasty, comforting and fulfilling! Remember though, nutrition is important- it’s why we eat! Isn’t it? lol I know I just lost a lot of people there! Ok fine, we eat for a variety of reasons- nutrition and health being the main ones that our cells, tissues, organs and systems strive for! When dining out, it’s good to chose options that increase your health- perhaps those that you wouldn’t normally make yourself.

I go for seaweed whenever I see it is offered; seaweed is high in minerals and it’s not something I normally make, although that is slowly changing. Vegetables are always a great choice, assuming they are not drenched in butters, oils and cheeses (vegan ones included.) Protein items like tofu, tempeh and seitan are great to order in a restaurant because it’s healthy, high in protein and not something most people have a lot of experience with in cooking or preparing food. The sauces have to be monitored for sure- sauces are killer calories if you ask me and that’s vegan or non-vegan!

We ordered hijiki seaweed, avocado salad, pumpkin soup, seitan skewers and citrus soy protein with brown rice and kale as an entree (pictures are in order.) It’s also good to order appetizers and share entrees. Everything was incredible especially the pumpkin soup and seitan skewers.

The soy entree was tasty but had too much sauce- therefore too much salt and sugar I’m sure. The soy was not organic therefore it was GMO soy, made from genetically modified soybean seed- the #1 GMO crop. I had to go to work so I skipped dessert- another reason to return to Wild Ginger. Probably I will try the sister restaurant Wild Ginger by the same owners in the city: 380 Broome Street, New York, NY.
