Vegan day 108: Wild Ginger in Manhattan

Out again for dinner- luckily, I got to choose! I am making my way through NYC’s vegan restaurants. I feel like I am almost done!
I think I may have to go back to a few more to try other dishes as well- just to be fair before I roll out my own
NYC vegan guide!

Tonight was Wild Ginger on Broome Street.

I had already been to the one in Brooklyn so now I had to try this one. Bringing along this time one other vegan and three meat eaters. Some people hate labels- lol- obviously, I do not mind them. Actually, speaking of labels, that is what I believe in- that food should be labeled properly- GMO’s, sugar breakdowns, natural flavors and so on. I hardly began today’s blog and I am already on a another note!

We ordered a lot of food here!

mango soy protein

Summer rolls
Scallion pancakes
Seitan skewers
Mango salad
Kimchee
Black pepper seitan
Mango soy protein
Basil soy protein
Jade mushrooms
Pad Thai

Of course one of my friends had to add a “chicken” flavored soy to her pad thai- she asked for it like that- “make it taste like chicken”. She was somewhat kidding — trying to hide the fact that she actually liked the food and it was fulfilling.

I think the mango soy protein was the tastiest but then again I did not try the noodles since I stay away from them unless they are the zero carb kind! The mushrooms were really good except they were fried and my black pepper seitan was full of delicious protein but too much sauce. Actually here is a helpful hint for dining out that we have all heard a million times- SAUCE ON THE SIDE! At least cut the mega calories in half! Mostly all of these dishes and others in similar type restaurants vegan or not- all have way too much sauce

All in all- it was a super fun dining experience with great friends. This Wild Ginger is smaller than the one in Brooklyn; the staff was very sweet and the service was great. My friends all seemed happy with the food and the experience. I think sometimes non-vegans are surprised that vegan food can actually taste good too!

Everyone was full and we were about to pass on dessert when I saw that they carry Vegan Treats’ Peanut Butter Bombno way was I saying no. I ordered it with 5 spoons and that was that!
