Vegan day 232: Rawlicious, SOHO NYC
“A new raw food restaurant..”
That’s all I need to hear and you have my attention. My friend told me about another restaurant vegan and raw- I was so excited! The first thing I asked about was the seating. It’s almost frustrating to frequent these places with 4 tables or less- always a wait!. Not almost frustrating– it IS FRUSTRATING– so much that I often pass them over. I called ahead to see if it was a “real” restaurant lol. Real is it is– and RAW! Rawlicious is located in SOHO, NYC! This seems like a name I would choose for a restaurant. I had originally wanted to use “Honeylicious” named after a very special person. The only thing with that is- I don’t eat “honey” anymore. I will come up with something though.
The feeling I got here was LESS IS MORE! I like that simplicity because that is what a healthy diet is sometimes all about- and healthy living for that matter. I am always ready to try a new vegan place- especially raw- so I dove right in. Once again, I ordered close to everything on the menu.
RAWLICIOUS
- Nut and seed flatbreads with cashew cheese.
- Nori rolls
- Pizza on sprouted buckwheat and flax seed crust
- Nutloaf with mashed cauliflower
- Summer fruit tart
- Cheesecake
The food really was amazing. I have eaten enough raw food now to be able to compare and contrast. Hand down, they have the best RAW VEGAN PIZZA to date! Pasta seems to be pasta in many places made deliciously each time. Here though, it was with a really special bolognese sauce- so good that I wish I could have stolen the recipe. How many times can I ask, what’s in this, before I really pull out a pen and paper lol.
The dish that I thought was the most original (for me) was the “nutloaf”. I aspire to make this before the year is out!
