Vegan day 168: My experience at THE SEED

The SEED:
a vegan experience

All I can is that next year I am taking off of work to go to this. Since I work late nights, I only made it to the second half of the first day and missed the second day completely. Even so… this event totally exceeded my expectations
I was eating at Soy and Sake one night when I picked up the flyer about
THE SEED- a vegan experience.
Of course, I was interested, wanted to learn more and sign up to support the event. I signed up some of my vegan/ vegan-ish friends as well! I was expecting it to be speakers and perhaps some food sampling. Actually, I ate before hand because I really wasn’t even expecting much on the food end. I have this vision in my head of people telling me about the vegetarian festival each year in the city where the lines wrap around city blocks. I don’t do lines. This was different.
The energy was casual and friendly- nothing rushed or over crowded. Don’t get me wrong- it was busy! Very busy.. I’m so happy honestly to see so many vegans!

The event was set up well. I wasn’t sure at first because the main speaker stage and movie screening rooms were not in actual rooms but sort of open spaces where people could feel free to join in or not. By the end of the day, I really came to appreciate the space and set up- I’m a picky virgo if i haven’t mentioned that before- so that’s a complement.

The Vakery

It was exciting to see so many vendors. This is so my thing. I love shopping too- I believe I just confessed to that indulgence in yesterday’s blog. So visiting each table and talking to the vendors was really a pleasure. Oh… and the food sampling. There was much more than I had expected. I don’t expect free food so any samples are nice. I don’t mind paying for food either so maybe next time, they can bring even more to sell. I enjoyed talking to people at all the booths. The ones I spent the most time at were for the Catskill Animal SanctuaryThe Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary and Clinical Nutrition. I really enjoyed the speakers- I only saw Colleen Patrick Goudreau, Kathy Stevens and Dr. Joel Fuhrman- they were each amazing! I would like to catch more of them next time- I really missed out on the rest. I did see cooking demos going on- Vita mix was there! There was an area for movies but I wasn’t in that mindset at the time. I think I wanted to visit the food tables lol- what else? There were books on sale in a few places- I thought I was coming back the next day so it looks like I will have to actually visit a bookstore soon. I especially want the Candle 79 cookbook.

Wild Ginger

So what did I eat today? My friends said… what didn’t we eat? I recall many different restaurants such as Cafe Blossom, Candle 79, Pure Food and Wine, Wild Ginger, Gingersnap’s Organic, SunWarrior raw vegan protein shakes, bakery items and
chocolate… chocolate… chocolate! I think that’s what I remember most and ate the most of! The Nicobella truffles were the best I have ever had. Kopali Organics had tons of samples but then wouldn’t let you buy anything except the chocolate covered mulberries which were delicious but I wanted everything. I ate yummy mini-cup cakes from The Vakery and various other food samples.

Cinnamon Snail

The food didn’t even end there- we went to Wild Ginger for lunch and the Cinnamon Snail Truck for dessert. It was a gingersnap cookie- I am still dreaming about it!

My favorite purchases of the day luckily for me didn’t revolve around food- it was a super cool tee-shirt “BEET THE SYSTEM” and a vegan vitamin D “VITASHINE” that I have never heard of before. Now I just need to order a SEED shirt and hope that everything goes similarly next year with perhaps more vegan accessory type vendors. I think I have the vegan eating down and I’m ready to buy a new belt, shoes and a bag– all VEGAN!

Thank you to all those who put that amazing event together… and those who supported it!
