Vegan day 205: Pio Pio Queens

Eating at Pio Pio as a vegan is about equal to eating in a Brazilian churrascaria. For me… both were my favorites and now both would be extremely painful. First, I feared the lure and temptation. Then once past that… the visuals and reminders of the mass animal deaths to provide those so-called luxuries. This place is all about chicken so that’s what I will talk about. I used to think that it was ok to eat chicken. I used to think that it was also healthier and less fattening than meat. Most people I speak to about health generally say to me that they have cut out red meat and that it’s a process. It’s as if the line of elimination goes red meat: pork: chicken and then fish. In terms of health, I guess I thought like this too although I believe now I’ll take a change in that order. I may side with grass fed beef before chicken just based on what they eat. But anyway, I can’t even talk about this because it really goes past health for me and over into animal cruelty. If I have to choose the line up now of elimination I would say to give up PORK FIRST– then chicken- then beef- then fish. Crazy vegan talk right now- I should say don’t eat any of it. Most of my friends and family though wouldn’t even listen so I’ll break it down like that for now.  I won’t allow any pork products in my upstate house. I have to draw the line somewhere and that’s where it is. I will have a pet pig someday. They have more sensitivity than dogs- I can’t understand the torture that is allowed and although it’s beginning to change slightly it’s not enough. Chickens are so mass produced and treated poorly- probably the worst. These are articles or fact sheets just headlining the major issues.
Chicken Information from Vegan Peace
If you really want to never eat chicken again just take yourself to google and YouTube. I’ll stop there for now.

I went to Pio Pio for a family event. I always thought it was the chicken that I liked. Technically as a vegan I could still eat the rice, beans, maduros and tostones. Today though, I am eating raw vegan so I can only indulge in their incredible avocado salad. Interestingly enough, I realized later after I was completely satisfied with my meal that it was the garlic tostones “dressing” that I loved and the spicy garlic sauce.

It never had anything to do with the chicken! There is something to be said for that. Sauces and marinades have taken over cuisine and yet the animal dish itself gets the credit. All those dishes that people crave with delight- I bet most can be made almost the same- VEGAN!
